What is 'Chances' about, what inspired this song to be written?

'Chances' was a really cool song to create. It was about twelve in the morning, I had just landed in LA and I was going to bed, and this melody kept popping into my head, “What are the chances?” ’I’d had that title idea for a while, so I just kind of sang the melody out. Then the next morning I went to my producer, and he already had a beat lined up. He was like, “Check this out,” and started playing it. I just started freestyling over it, and literally like three seconds into that first freestyle, that became the chorus. The whole idea behind it was just this moment of gratitude. I was thinking, what are the chances I’m here, doing what I’m doing right now? I feel super blessed, and that feeling is really what inspired the song.

For me this is the kind a of song that brings tons of uplifting energy. In chances there just also lies a lot of hope. What are songs that do that same for you?

For me, songs that bring that same kind of hope and energy would be 'Loving Life Again' by Lana Langley, 'Long Hot Summer' by Keith Urban, and also 'Hold On' and 'Somebody' by Justin Bieber. Those songs just have that upbeat, feel-good energy that lifts you up.

With a million roads, a million ways, whether on stage or seeing people listening what has seeing everything align and finding your audience left you feeling?

I’ve been really blessed to do over a hundred shows this past year. And honestly, it’s crazy, it shows how far we’ve come, but it also reminds me how much more there is to go. There’s so much depth to this industry. More than anything, I just feel really grateful. I’ve got a team that doesn’t just care about my success, they care about me as a person. Seeing the right people come together and everything fall into place, it just leaves me feeling super thankful.

What made the timing right to step into your music, and release this first song?

I’ve technically been doing concerts since I was about four and playing professionally since I was around eleven. I started writing songs at sixteen, and over the years I’ve worked with different groups, toured, and eventually started doing my own thing. We recorded some songs in LA, built a team, and everything just kind of started lining up, learning social media, building the structure, getting the right people around me. There’s never really a “perfect” time, but you can work to make the timing right. And for me, it’s been a mix of a lot of hard work and having an amazing team.

What can the process of sitting down to write a song look like for you?

For me, it can come from a few different places. Sometimes it’s just straight-up how I’m feeling, I’ll just start speaking it out and it flows from the heart. Other times it starts with a title idea I love, or a chord progression or riff. From there, it’s like building Lego, you just stack piece on piece until it turns into something. A lot of times I’m just messing around on guitar, too, and something sparks from that.

Is there anything you do to have the energy or what do you do when that energy isn’t there?

Touring is intense, I treat it like being a professional athlete. I’m doing cardio, lifting weights, and training so I can run around on stage and still sing well. I eat really clean. I don’t really touch processed sugar because it messes with my brain and focus. Same with a lot of processed carbs, I find they drain my energy. I take vitamins, and I try to get outside a lot. Fresh air honestly makes a huge difference. That’s a big part of how I keep my energy up.

From what I understand you grew up in a family with music all around you, has music always just been a natural part of your life?

Yeah, hundred percent. Music has always been natural for me. I actually grew up on a tour bus from when I was born until I was about five. Funny story, there was not enough room for me on the tour bus, so my parents put me in a cupboard, above their bed. They made it into a little bed with foam and everything, and that’s where I slept. So yeah, I literally grew up on the road in a cupboard! (laughs) I started playing drums in my parents band, and when I was eleven, I told my dad I wanted in. He said, “I love you, and you’re obviously my son, but you’ve gotta be good.” So I locked myself in the basement for three months, learned everything to a click track, came back, played it for him, and he was shocked I had actually learned everything so well! And from that point on, I was the drummer. So yeah, music’s always been part of who I am.

What are the chances your next single is already in the works?

Very high chances! We also droppeda new song on May 8, and a lots more to come after that. We are planning to keep releasing music consistently over the next year and honestly, probably way beyond that. Plus I got a ton more shows too. So, lots coming and I’m hyped about it.
