"Started with posting pictures on Instagram"

ANASTASIA RINE TALKS MODELING

Interviewed by Culture Coast Talks editor Daniel John. Interview transcripts might have been edited for length and clarity.

How did you get your start as a model?

I started as a fashion content creator and with posting lifestyle pictures on my Instagram. Soon after I started receiving messages from photographers offering to shoot so I gave it a try, after about a month of doing multiple trade shoots and posting the pictures on my social media I began receiving paid job offers so I turned it into my career.

How important would you say social media is as a model today, what do you ultimately think got you the most work, agencies or your social media–presence?

I have never been signed with a modeling agency neither did I try to be with one, all the jobs I got through the past five years were either through modeling apps, and websites, or people would find me on Instagram. If you don't have a following on Instagram or aren't ready to constantly be doing trade shoots to post the pictures, I would definitely recommend to get signed with an agency.

I'd imagine you so often have work at the back of your mind even when you are not out on a shoot?

This is definitely a hard one for me. Because I also do social media and I truly love doing it. Modeling is not truly my biggest passion but it does or can pay pretty good money and that is why I do it. So when I don't model I switch to my platforms and the time really flies by working on them. For now I have an agreement with myself to take one day off a week and go do something fun to reset myself, meet friends, actually live a little (laughs). Doing self-care days is also a good one, I like to go get a massage, go to the sauna, go out on a hike. It's good for your health and mind and just makes me a happier person.

You moved across the world to live in LA, what is that like?

Being an immigrant is definitely not easy, it's a lot of work, it took a lot of time to fully adapt into a different system but it felt like home from the moment I first got here. Finding friends in LA is not an easy one for me though, American girls are just different, I love Russian girls, I feel like we have a lot softer energy to ourselves.

They might try to claim that they have a fall and a winter season but you and I both know that it is pretty much always summer in California. Would you call yourself a summer loving person, not least in terms of the fashion, or can you miss all the different seasons living there?

I feel like we do truly have seasons here now, at least for the past three years, winters were pretty cold and rainy and this winter have been super long and I'm tired of wearing jackets (laughs). I personally love snow and I miss seeing it but I'm totally fine with the weather here. It's more like spring, summer and fall weather and is very comfortable for living. I would prefer spring over the summer in terms of my favorite season, but I am really not complaining even though it does get boring sometimes when it is hot and sunny for ninety days straight.

Though you might not have started with a dream of modeling you have always been a creative person, painting and dancing. What do you see as the goal and ambition now, what is the dream for you?

For now I am pretty good with what I am doing, but I would want to get more into the fashion industry and eventually create something of my own, to start my own brand.

Have you ever been over here in Sweden?

No, I actually haven't. I would love to, I really love Europe and miss it a lot. I know you have some really good skiing resorts, I almost made it there seven years ago but had to cancel the trip.

Living in Los Angeles, would you ever like to get into acting too?

I would definitely like to try it out but its super competitive. I know some actors here and they fully live and breathe their passion for acting which I don't think I really have in me, but it can all change for me as I change, it is a lot of hard work and long days on sets for sure, not talking about how many auditions you have to do to get at least something.
