BAILEY PERRIE TALKS THE LOTTO
"Part of me almost finds it hard to believe"

Interviewed by Culture Coast Talks editor Daniel John. Interview transcripts might have been edited for length and clarity.
What was 'The Lotto' written about?
'The Lotto' was written about this crush I had on a guy. I knew he was liked by a few people, but things seemed they were going well until there was this other girl who came into his life and swept him away. I was happy for them but of course it sucked a little. So, I wrote a song about it.
Are there any plans for a ‘The Lotto’ video, or what would your dream video be like?
Unfortunately there will not be a video for 'The Lotto', but if I were to make my dream video for it, it would pretty much be as the song describes, showing the story and situation while I also sing my heart out in a field, wearing a flowy dress.
One can’t always hold lucky numbers in love, but you certainly won the lotto artistically. Already at eleven you were recording?
I have always loved the stage, when I was younger I was a part of a school choir and loved it! I then did my first songwriting workshop where I met the producer of my first two albums. I realised how much I loved songwriting and the ability to create through music, and have not stopped since!
Are there any particular mix of artists you draw inspiration from, whether directly heard in your own pop or in other ways just have you crushing on them?
I love 2000’s pop-rock-style of music and have more recently tried experimenting with that sound. Artists I take a lot of inspiration from are Avril Lavigne, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and a smaller artist whose music I love called Knox. My music taste also comes mostly from my dad, so I am a huge Bon Jovi fan.
With your songs having been listened to by millions it’s clear your voice is also touching the hearts of so many?
It is just so surreal. Part of me almost finds it hard to believe. It just makes me feel so grateful that people enjoy my music, and the feeling of knowing there are people out there who connect to your music is unmatched. I always love hearing what people have to say, it honestly brings me so much joy.
It is incredible you’ve done so much already. What’s been some personal highlights for you?
Some highlights for me were going to Nashville, Tennessee for the ISSA awards and getting to take home a trophy was incredible. I also always just love performing, truly can’t beat the feeling of being on stage. Also, I would say the release of ‘You Know You Kinda Like It’, as it was kind of the marker for a new chapter in life.
You are about to jump on stage soon again this May. Might one be able to hear any unreleased upcoming music there. You’ve mentioned working on a new album?
Yes! I love performing my unreleased song so I'll be showcasing some of those, the album is currently in full swing. We are releasing all the songs as singles, and once they’ve all been released, I’m hoping to put on a gig to showcase the album.
