BRITT GOOD TALKS CURIOUS CATERER: FOILED PLANS

Interviewed by Culture Coast Talks editor Daniel John. Interview transcripts might have been edited for length and clarity.

As the fourth film in the 'Curious Caterer' series, ‘Foiled Plans,’ takes the audience to a medieval ball fundraiser that soon turns the castle into a new murder mystery. What made you, as to say, curious about joining this series?

I'm genuinely thankful for the chance to audition for this role, big thanks to my agent Esther for all her support and believing in me! When I got the audition for the character of Emma, I was excited to dive into her personality and uncover any connections to my own. As an actor, staying curious is key, and exploring a murder mystery plot brought a whole new level of excitement and fascination to the journey.

Goldy does not do a great job drawing her, but luckily you do. How did you see Emma Kensington as a character. Who is she?

I was lit up while delving into the character of Emma Kensington. I saw her as someone with a compassionate heart, dedicated to helping others and filled with big ambitions. Coming from a circus background with her brother, she lacked a traditional family structure and found her family within the circus community. This upbringing planted in her a strong sense of independence and self-reliance. Despite her gullibility, particularly when it comes to trusting her brother, Emma's honesty shines through. She exudes an energy that draws people to her, coupled with a strong work ethic that defines her character. Her journey with Sir Alistair presents an opportunity for her to flourish in new ways and experience the unknown.

This series of "whodunit" films are all based on the novels by Diane Mott Davidson. Did you look at her writing in any of your preparation for this film?

I started off by checking out the book 'Sticks and Stones' to get a feel for the story before filming. I also binge-watched the previous 'Curious Caterer' films to help me prep. While movies adapted from novels often have changes, diving into the book let me soak up Diane Mott Davidson's writing style and the story before jumping into other preparation.

Was there any particularly exciting time on set?

It was truly an unreal experience from start to finish, the first day was full of exciting nerves! The cast and crew were so friendly and the downtime between shots was fun getting to know everyone on a personal level. Filming in the castle brought a magical vibe to the set, especially when we were all dressed in our medieval costumes. There were times when some of the cast had auditions, so we made a self-tape area on set and filmed the auditions between takes, it was kinda epic. Being in Victoria, BC added an extra special touch to the whole adventure as we bonded off set at karaoke nights, Super Bowl parties and movie outings, creating memories I will cherish forever.

How early on was there already a mini-Britt dreaming of a life in the arts?

Since I was a child, this journey has been my dream. School never quite sparked my passion, but I fell in love with dance early on, the arts have always been my calling, there was never a doubt in my mind that this was my destined career path. Dance is ingrained in my soul, and it naturally paved the way for my venture into acting. Although my love for being on stage performing was clear early on, my transition to acting came as a later discovery, igniting a fresh passion within me. Although starting later than some, I’m embracing my unique journey and trusting in divine timing.

Dancing is how you started getting roles in films and since then you’ve had the chance to share your creativity with quite a few notable people?

I've been lucky to work on projects alongside some truly inspiring artists. Each set I've been on has left me with valuable lessons. While I'm used to being around A-list talents as a dancer, being part of 'Suicide Squad' was a whole new level. Watching Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jared Leto, and the rest of the cast at work was one for the books. Margot Robbie, who I admire, blew me away with her acting skills and badass fight scenes. Playing a demon and one of Jared Leto's creatures allowed me to witness his dedication to his role, staying in character even between takes also known as method acting. Seeing these actors in play, witnessing their craft and teamwork, has been a part of fueling my own journey and motivation to keep going!

This is for a fact your first non-dancing role in a film, are there certain types of roles you’d like to move toward now?

This is my first feel into a non-dancing role in films, and it feels both surreal and perfectly timed. Moving in this direction feels so right. I'm pretty flexible when it comes to the roles I aim to take on. My end goal is to embody versatility like Meryl Streep, known for her chameleon-like transformations into diverse characters. Exploring a gritty role is something that truly excites me, and working alongside Emma Stone, whose body of work resonates with me, would be a dream come true. Shows like 'Friends' have been a big influence on me, and the idea of being part of a sitcom, though uncommon nowadays, has always intrigued me. Ultimately, my passion lies in storytelling, and I’m excited to explore different characters and narratives in my acting journey.
