GRACE HOLLAND TALKS EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT ME
"Music is nonjudgmental and has no rules"

Interviewed by Culture Coast Talks editor Daniel John. Interview transcripts might have been edited for length and clarity.
For how long has music really been part of your life?
Music has always been a part of my life. I have been taking piano lessons since elementary and have fell in love with so many different genres of music.
Was your own songwriting always part of it as well or can you look to any particular point in which your own voice got through?
I had always written songs in my notebooks, however I never took any of them serious or showed anyone until the end of middle school. Freshman year of high school is when I became fascinated in writing all the time.
What does having music in your life mean, for you?
Music, for me, is a way to express myself and cope with various emotions and situations in my life. Music is nonjudgmental and has no rules.
How does it feel sharing your music with the world?
Sometimes it can vulnerable and scary to put out music. I want people to relate and like it.
It’s exciting but it’s scary.
What made your debut single earlier this year, 'Green Lights and Movies', the perfect song to introduce yourself with?
'Green Lights and Movies' felt like the perfect song to showcase my songwriting, voice and overall vibe. It was just a song I really liked.
This single is now also the opening track of your album, 'Everything You Know About Me', did you always intend for the nine songs to exist as a coherent body of work?
This album contains songs written from many different eras in my life, to be honest. 'House without Doors' was written almost three years ago at this point, and 'Middle of June' was written a year and a half ago. It wasn’t intended for all of them to fit so well, however I believe they do.
Where do you stand creatively now after the album. Are you writing anything?
I am always writing, challenging myself, and trying to come up with something even better than the last!
