MOA EMELIA MELIN TALKS MODELING
"It’s special showcasing someone’s designs"

When did you model for the first time?
The first time I modeled was when I was sixteen years old, the first time was through a time-for-print-group, where I got in contact with a photographer and we booked a time together for a photoshoot. I went to it with another female friend I had at the time. The first time I remember being a little scary at first, but that feeling disappeared very quickly because the photographer was very easygoing and professional to work with. I’ve also always been a bit of a “theater monkey” ever since I was little so the nervousness faded very quickly and I realized quite fast that it was something I found very fun and exciting.
You surround yourself with clothes in many parts of your life. Has this interest in fashion always been there?
I think I have always had an interest in fashion and makeup, since I was little, but it was probably around the age of fifteen that the interest really started to grow stronger. I also work in a clothing store, which has sparked an even greater interest in clothes, over the past year, especially, clothing and fashion have taken up more space for me since I got to work together with Sara Poul, and also when I did a shoot with Peter Englund.
Though you have been doing this for a while, would you say it has become more serious. I get the sense you have picked up the pace recently?
Yes, it has absolutely increased recently, and I definitely think that has a lot to do with the fact that I have started to invest more in it, and now have an even stronger drive and clearer goals than before. It is definitely much more serious now. And I hope that it will lead me further within the modeling industry.
You’re not with an agency or similar yet. But is that something you’re considering now?
I would absolutely like to be with an agency in order to develop and move further forward in what I’m doing today.
What kind of work do you hope for. If we’re manifesting a bit?
I might hope to be able to model for more clothing brands, maybe in their online campaigns, or similar.
This summer during Beauty Week in Stockholm, you walked runway shows for designer Sara Poul’s brand. What was it like to wear and walk in her creations?
Yes exactly, it’s incredibly fun to be part of wearing Sara’s clothes. I also got to be part of her fashion show that she did together with Therese Neaimé, which was such an insanely fun and honorable experience. I’m really grateful that Sara wanted me to be one of the people wearing her garments during Stockholm Beauty Week, it’s a special feeling to get to showcase someone’s designs, and of course it’s only positive emotions.
Do you have any personal favourites from her?
I think my favourite is one I wore during her fashion show. It was a black, tight, long skirt with an incredibly beautiful lower part that was then also paired with a corset-like mesh-top with sewn-on flower patches.
Her designs are very proper but works just as well at a fashion-week as in everyday life, raising the elegance level regardless of the context. But not everything a model wears on stage is as comfortable to wear in daily life. What is the most impractical thing you’ve worn as a model?
So far I actually haven’t had anything that wasn’t comfortable to wear, except for high heels (laughs).
It’s not long until the weather opens up for a few more layers, which season do you feel most at home in?
Fall allows you to mix more pieces together, which can in itself be much more fun, but I feel most at home during summer.
