RACHEL COOK TALKS SUCCUBUS
"I am not much of a horror girl usually"

Interviewed by Culture Coast Talks editor Daniel John. Interview transcripts might have been edited for length and clarity.
A succesful model already, when did you decide to start acting?
Honestly, acting found me before I found it. I only decided to give it a try when someone reached out and asked me to be in their film four years ago back in 2020.
Are you hoping to gain the same recognition for your acting as you have as a model?
I am definitely open to doing more acting! I am having fun with it and I am curious to see what other kinds of roles might suit me.
Do you feel that your experiences as a model has prepared you for auditions?
To be totally honest I have had almost no experience auditioning for roles, not in the way I have for modeling jobs.
How would you compare the two outlets?
There are so many elements happening at once, which makes it even trickier! It’s an experience that relies on teamwork even more than modeling does, and then there’s the conversational side of it where you really have to be engaged with the whole group and be in the moment with them throughout. Being able to work together to bring a project to life was amazing and the entire acting experience was incredibly fulfilling. Working with people who genuinely care is just always really important to me.
Have you faced any prejudice as a model trying on a new thing?
(Laughs) I don't think there’s much stigma around that these days and even if there is I am kind of like whatever!
What was it about this particular film that drew you to the role?
I think I was drawn to the chance to tap into my darker side. (Laughs) And I wanted to challenge myself, it was definitely an intense headspace to step into but I wanted to explore that and it was a blast to push myself creatively and see how far I could go, the script was just so crazy and surreal that I felt compelled to join in. Bringing this character to life and allowing that darker side to come through, was something totally different from anything else I have done. And it actually felt freeing.
Also I know all too well from social media how people construct their own idea about who a person are, just like a character. Feeling like I could merge that contrast between the seductive and her darker side was unsettlingly compelling.
What was it like wearing all the prosthetics?
Putting on and removing all of the prosthetics and makeup was a challenge in itself. It was both incredibly demanding and rewarding. (Laughs) It would have been pretty draining to wear it all for longer.
Many young actors find themselves in horror-films these days. Is this a genre you personally enjoy watching on movie night?
(Laughs) I'm honestly not much of a horror girl usually.
At least not before now!
