SCOTT VLASSIS TALKS SOMEONE LIKE YOU
"I create whatever type of music I feel like"

Interviewed by Culture Coast Talks editor Daniel John. Interview transcripts might have been edited for length and clarity.
Do you find collaborations to be a good place to find new creative recipes?
I just love music and instead of placing myself in one lane or have one genre, I just go to the studio and create whatever type of music I feel like making. I do love to collab with other artists that I feel would suite certain pieces I’ve created.
How did this track with Benny and Matt come about?
I reached out to Benny on Instagram, we had a few mutual friends and I just asked if he wanted to jump into one of my sessions. From that point I think we recorded three-four songs and picked the one we liked the most. Matt Saxx is a good pal of mine and sometimes I feel his sprinkle of sax is just what some of my records need.
Is there anyone else you’d like to collab with one day?
There's an endless list of people I would love to collab with all for different reasons.
But I would love to collab with Kaytranada. I feel his vibe and mine would complement each other’s tremendously.
You've been singing a lot about love this year, releasing song after song about being head over heels?
To be honest it’s just something that I enjoy writing about, I was having this discussion the other day with someone. I just think it’s good to be positive and uplifting but at the same time it’s good to have some sad songs as a lot of people are in their feelings at different points of their life. So, for me its just being able to create music that’s relatable.
Would you say music always keeps your mood up?
I guess it all depends what kind of mood I’m in when I’m creating. I’m sure everyone loves to be in a positive happy mood but with the world we live in I don’t think that’s possible. I do have around thirty-forty songs in the catalogue ready. And they aren’t all happy songs. I just create as I feel as for me I’m making music for me and just hope others can connect to it.
When did music start meaning this much for you?
I’ve loved music ever since I was a kid always listening to what my mum was listening to and finding out what instruments made what sound. For me music is a gift, it has the power to make you feel any way you intend. I have respect for any artist who put themselves out there for everyone to see.
It seem like you are at a good place creatively now?
This year sure is going well and I’m trying to release every two months as I have such a big catalogue. But working full time and juggling the writing and recording, marketing, videos, photoshoots and Zoom calls every other day can be quite strenuous. But at the same time I love it.
